Description

When working with environmentally sensitive sites in New Jersey, a full understanding of the NJDEP`s ecological evaluation process is critical. In this online class, experts in the evaluation of the environmental impacts related to hazardous waste sites will review ecological evaluation and risk principles and then walk participants through New Jersey`s ecological evaluation process (including updates based on the revised guidance) using real case studies. Students will learn how elements such as baseline, bioavailability, and risk management can assist in addressing potential ecological risks at their sites.

The NJDEP`s Ecological Evaluation Technical Guidance document and its revisions provide details on how to conduct an Ecological Evaluation (EE) and an Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA) for environmentally sensitive natural resources (ESNR) that may be impacted by contaminated sites. This interactive class will cut through the legal and scientific jargon and focus on a variety of practical examples to illustrate how to address ESNRs as an LSRP or other environmental professional. Participants will leave class with a decision tree of approaches for investigating, managing, and ultimately remediating adverse ecological concerns.
